MALOLOS CITY – University comfort rooms, commonly known as “CR” are essential facilities for students, faculty, and staff. They are meant to be used for convenience and provide comfort. These spaces, however, can sometimes face problems, from cleanliness problems to water-related issues.
At the Federizo Hall located inside the Bulacan State University (BSU), one of the most common challenges that BulSUans experience is the lack of water supply. In the female CR of the College of Architecture and Fine Arts (CAFA) the faucets often do not have water. The inadequate water supply sometimes roots to plumbing problems that can lead to discomfort of the people using these facilities.
Students sometimes also discover that the flush is not working. They would have to use a toilet that is incomplete, the lid of the tank is nowhere to be found. The person who used it will leave it as it is, even if they left their waste in it. As they do not know how to operate the toilet without the lid. Out of the 5 cubicles in the CAFA female restroom, 3 toilets do not have a tank lid.

That is not the only problem in that particular restroom. In the 4th stall, the cubicle’s door lock is broken. Female students would have to ask their companion to stand in front of the said door and watch so it would not be open while they do their business. They are afraid that someone might suddenly come inside of the cubicle and invade their privacy.

While in the female comfort room of the College of Arts and Letters (CAL), a cubicle is out of order and 2 are functioning. The said nonfunctional stall has been a problem of the student body. Its door is broken and barely hanging by the hinges, students would have to use force in order to get the door to shut. They tend to avoid the cubicle but when the CR is overcrowded, they have no choice but to use it. The out of order sign was recently added when the toilet would not stop flushing by itself.

The restrooms at the Federizo Hall are only some of the examples of struggles BulSUans face when they look for a comfortable place to relieve and refresh themselves. Other college buildings also face these challenges.
A clean, well-maintained, and functional restroom at the Bulacan State University plays a vital role in the daily lives of the students, faculty, and staff. Addressing these problems and doing routine maintenance would help provide a safe environment for people who use these comfort rooms. It would also emphasize the importance of personal hygiene to each and everyone inside the university.
