MALOLOS CITY—BulSU E-Library encourages all students: including those from higher-years and satellite campuses to attend an E-Library Orientation.

The E-Library has decided to organize an orientation to all students—prioritizing the freshmen—conducted on the library’s 7th floor at the Amphitheater to address the proper usage of the building and its facilities for the academic year 2023-2024.

This includes a walk through to the staff also known as the LoDy or Librarian on Duty, the mission and vision, rules and regulations, and some of the available services: physical facilities, and its online services such as the Virtual Library Services, Online Library Forms, E-Resources, and more.

After the orientation, the students shall then proceed to the 6th floor to register themselves, then a week after their orientation they may go back to the library and have their SLIC stickers; a sticker which resembles a bar code that will be attached to their IDs.

The SLIC or Student Library Identification Code is a system to monitor the student’s usage and access to the library. Upon entering or exiting, students must scan their IDs. To access all facilities, students are required to register to the system.

They must also log in and out each floor they visit. The SLIC helps to identify the number of students using the library at a given time, and for the safety purposes of the students; their activities upon entering the E-Library will be recorded, which can be used in case of emergency.

Unknown to some

However little is known about the orientation, as some of the higher-year students are unaware that they must attend an orientation and register first, to gain full access to the facilities offered at the library.

According to some, they have no idea about the orientation and thought that it is only available to freshmen.

"Hindi po kami aware na may pa-ganiyan pala, since ang alam namin (ay) freshmen lang ang meron (orientation) base sa mga post at announcements" Angelica, a third year student says.

"Wala pa po kasing nakakarating sa’min tungkol doon, kaya nag-assume kami na no need na yon (orientation)" she explained.

“Wala po kasing mapupuntahan” she added.

Process of the orientation

According to a LODY there is no deadline for the orientation. They will continuously conduct the orientation until all students are registered to their system.

He then explained that they collaborated with the Student Government about the schedules, however they also decided to accept walk-ins due to some not being able to wait for their own schedules and to maximize the time.

He also added that the LSC’s or Local Student Council of each college go directly to the University Librarian Maria Pretty Lay Abdala, to set an appointment for the orientation.

In the case of students from the satellite campuses, their local librarians coordinate with the E-library to set a schedule for them.

Those who wish to set a schedule as a section may contact the University Librarian directly.

For walk-ins, they can approach the LoDy’s to have a schedule based on the time of their arrival.

The E-Library conducts the orientation Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. The orientation schedules are:

  • 8 AM - 11 AM

  • 11 AM - 1 PM

  • 1 PM - 3 PM

  • 3 PM - 5 PM

The E-Library

The E-Library’s official operating hours are Monday to Friday 8 AM to 5 PM, however they also started to operate on Saturdays 8 AM to 5 PM due to many requests and to cater those who have saturday classes.

The BulSU E-Library is a 7-floor building with each floor offering different facilities to the students and faculty members with an overall capacity of 1, 612. This includes a reading area, sofas, and individual study carrels from the 1st floor up to the 4th. On the 5th, it offers several Discussion Rooms, on the 6th is the Computer Area, and on the 7th floor where the Amphitheater and Multi-Purpose Hall resides.

Due to the overall population of BulSU students including the satellite campuses, the E-Library has limited its capacity to accommodate those who wish to study, review, or access the facilities offered
